Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: October 18, 2009 Three Die In Natchitoches Parish Crash Early this afternoon, a crash involving two vehicles killed three and injured four others. Troopers responded to the crash around 1:00 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 486 near Clarence, LA. The crash involved a 2002 Buick Rendezvous, driven by Monica W. Mitchell (B/F 52 yrs) of Jacksonville, FL and a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by Raevon R. Waldrup (B/M 28 yrs) of Campti, LA. The Buick was east bound on LA Hwy 486 when Mitchell crossed the centerline and collided with the west bound Mercury. Mitchell was not wearing her seatbelt and was pronounced dead. Her only passenger, identified as Marcella G. Walter (B/F 79 yrs) of Natchitoches, LA, received moderate injuries and was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA for treatment. Raevon Waldrup was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead. Shetoka M. Waldrup (B/F 29 yrs) of Campti, LA was a passenger in the Mercury. She was not wearing her seatbelt and was pronounced dead. There were three additional passengers in the Mercury at the time of the crash. All three were juveniles and received moderate injuries. Two were transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA for treatment and one was transported to Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA for treatment. The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated 57 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 68 fatalities. Thirty-six of the 47 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Five crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and two have involved an off road vehicle.
