Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: October 26, 2009 Grant Parish Fatal Crash Yesterday afternoon, a crash involving two vehicles killed one and injured another. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:50 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 71 south of LA Hwy 1241 at L & J Farms. The crash involved a 2004 Mazda, driven by Arthur T. Loyd (B/M 49 yrs) of Colfax, LA and a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Charles Turner (B/M 28 yrs) of Alexandria, LA. The Mazda was north bound on US Hwy 71 when Loyd lost control and crossed the centerline. This action resulted in the Mazda colliding with the south bound Chevrolet. It is unknown at this time if Loyd was wearing his seatbelt. He was pronounced dead. Turner was wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to Cabrini Hospital for treatment. The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated 58 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 69 fatalities. Thirty-six of the 48 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. It is unknown if the deceased was wearing a seatbelt in one crash. Five crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and two have involved an off road vehicle.
