Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: September 5, 2009 LaSalle Parish Fatal Crash Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed one person and injured another. Troopers responded to the crash around 5:15 am, which occurred on Hatcher Road near LA Hwy 127. The crash involved a 1999 Lincoln Town Car, driven by Clyde A. Bowens (B/M 41 yrs) of Jena, LA. The Lincoln was east bound on Hatcher Road when Bowens lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a large tree. Bowens was not wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to LaSalle General Hospital for treatment. His only passenger, identified as Qwanda Johnson (25 yrs) of Jena, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene. Johnson was not wearing her seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated 48 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 57 fatalities. Twenty-nine of the 39 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Four crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and two have involved an off road vehicle.
