| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: September 22, 2009 **UPDATE**Traffic Crash Shuts Down US Hwy 165 **Both north bound lanes and the outside south bound lane of US Hwy 165 were reopened at approximately 3:00 am. The inside south bound lane will continue to be closed to allow for the remainder of diesel to be cleaned. See below for information regarding the original news release. Earlier today, a crash involving one vehicle occurred which has caused US Hwy 165 to be closed to motorists. Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 3:50 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 165, approximately two miles south of Glenmora, LA. The crash involved a 2001 Freightliner, driven by Jose Guadalupe Cantu (51 yrs) of Mission, TX. The Freightliner was north bound on US Hwy 165 when the driver lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. Then, he overcorrected his vehicle and reentered the roadway causing it to overturn. This action resulted in both north bound lanes of US Hwy 165 being blocked. The Freightliner was hauling approximately 7000 gallons of diesel fuel. The crash caused the tank to rupture, spilling approximately 2700 gallons of diesel onto the roadway and into the median. This has caused both the north bound and south bound lanes of US Hwy 165 to be closed. The appropriate personnel are on scene and action is being taken to reopen the roadway as soon as possible. The roadway is not expected to be reopened until tomorrow. All traffic (north and south bound) is being diverted onto LA Hwy 113 to LA Hwy 112 to LA Hwy 10, which will lead motorists back to US Hwy 165 in Oakdale, LA. Louisiana State Police Troop E is being assisted by Louisiana State Police Troop D, Oakdale Police Department, Allen Parish Sheriff's Office, Glenmora Police Department, and Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office with all traffic control. There is not any type of evacuation needed for residence in the area. The driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Oakdale Hospital. He was charged with Careless Operation.
