| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE April 11, 2016 Unrestrained Mississippi Man Dies After being Ejected from Vehicle in Iberville Parish Crash Ramah, LA – Shortly after 12:00 am on April 11, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 10 westbound east of LA 975 in Iberville Parish. The crash took the life of 47 year old Kenith Simpson of Jackson, MS. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 19 year old Daryann Villareal of Jackson, MS was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in a 2011 Toyota Camry. Villareal fell asleep at the wheel and her vehicle began to veer to the right. Her vehicle struck the guardrail at the exit ramp to LA 975 causing it to rotate counter clockwise. Simpson was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office. Villareal was properly restrained and received moderate injuries in the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Villareal for analysis. Charges are pending. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
