TROOP E NEWS RELEASE Young Teenager Killed in ATV Crash LaSalle Parish – Earlier today, a crash involving an ATV and an empty log truck killed a young teenager from Jena. The teenager was not wearing a helmet. Troopers responded to the crash around 2:50 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 772, east of Jena. The crash involved a 1998 Yamaha ATV, driven by Wayden Savell (W/M 13 yoa) and a 2016 Peterbilt (18-wheeler/empty log truck), driven by Lloyd Lee Worsham (W/M 72 yoa) of Jena. The Peterbilt was eastbound on LA Hwy 772 when the Yamaha entered the roadway from the eastbound shoulder. This action placed the Yamaha in the direct travel path of the Peterbilt. Despite Worsham’s efforts to avoid the ATV, the Peterbilt collided with it. Savell was ejected from the ATV and was pronounced dead on the scene. Worsham received minor injuries and was transported to LaSalle General Hospital for treatment. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. The public is reminded that it is dangerous and illegal to operate off-road vehicles (i.e. three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other all-terrain vehicles) on any public roadway in this state. Troop E Troopers have investigated six fatal crashes in 2019, resulting in seven fatalities. Contact Information: | |||
