Early Morning Crash Kills Unrestrained DeRidder Woman

Vernon Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a woman from DeRidder, LA who was not wearing a seat belt.

Troopers responded to the crash around 4:50 a.m., which occurred on Bass Road, near U.S. Hwy 171. The crash involved a 2015 Nissan Altima, driven by 30-year-old Rebecca L. Iles. The Nissan was westbound on Bass Road when Iles lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with two culverts before reentering Bass Road and exiting the right side. The Nissan then collided with a fence post and a couple trees.

Iles was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt and properly restraining your children in child safety seats will dramatically reduce your chance, or their chance, of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 29 fatal crashes in 2019, resulting in 33 fatalities.
