Pedestrian Killed in Early Morning Crash
Rapides Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a male pedestrian from Boyce, LA.Troopers responded to the crash around 5:30 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 28 West, near Kisatchie Lane. The initial investigation revealed 29-year-old Shane L. Aiple was standing in the roadway, near the centerline, when he was struck by an eastbound 2017 Chevrolet pickup, driven by 28-year-old Charles L. Johnson Jr. of Hineston, LA. Aiple was pronounced dead. Johnson Jr. was wearing his seat belt and sustained minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic. Troop E Troopers have investigated 32 fatal crashes in 2019, resulting in 36 fatalities.
