Unrestrained Natchitoches Man Killed in Multiple Vehicle Crash
Natchitoches Parish – Earlier today, a crash involving three vehicles killed a man from Natchitoches, LA who was not wearing his seat belt. Troopers responded to the crash around 2:10 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 6, east of Robeline. The crash involved a 2019 Dodge pickup, driven by 90-year-old Mack Calhoun and two 2016 Freightliners (18-wheelers). The Dodge was westbound on LA Hwy 6 when Calhoun lost control and crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane. The first Freightliner’s driver steered right, in an effort to avoid the crash, but the Dodge collided with the left rear tires of the trailer. The Dodge continued westbound, in the eastbound lane of LA Hwy 6, and collided head-on with the second Freightliner. Calhoun was pronounced dead. Both drivers of the 18-wheelers were restrained. However, the second Freightliner’s driver received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt and properly restraining your children in child safety seats will dramatically reduce your chance, or their chance, of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Troop E Troopers have investigated 34 fatal crashes in 2019, resulting in 38 fatalities. Contact Information:
