TROOP E NEWS RELEASE October 12, 2019
Unrestrained Joyce Resident Killed in Crash
Grant Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a woman from Joyce, LA and moderately injured a man from DeQuincy, LA. Both occupants were not wearing a seat belt. Troopers responded to the crash around 6:50 a.m., which occurred on U.S. Hwy 167, south of LA Hwy 472. The crash involved a 2008 GMC SUV, driven by 34-year-old Marcus D. Goff. The GMC was northbound on U.S. Hwy 167, when Goff lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree. Goff was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His only passenger, identified as 26-year-old Maygon M. Edmonds, was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt and properly restraining your children in child safety seats will dramatically reduce your chance, or their chance, of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Troop E Troopers have investigated 36 fatal crashes in 2019, resulting in 40 fatalities.
