TROOP E NEWS RELEASE October 23, 2017 Pedestrian Killed in Catahoula Parish Crash Catahoula Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a pedestrian from Jonesville, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 6:10 a.m., which occurred on US Hwy 84 west of LA Hwy 124. The crash involved a 2001 Infiniti, driven by Wayne L. Morris (W/M 70 yrs) of Pineville, LA and a pedestrian, identified as Johnny B. Stewart Jr. (B/M 35 yrs). The Infiniti was eastbound on US Hwy 84 when Morris lost control and crossed the white fog line. This action resulted in the Infiniti colliding with the pedestrian. Prior to the crash, Stewart Jr. was walking eastbound on the shoulder of US Hwy 84, on the right side of the white fog line wearing black shoes, black shorts, and a black top. Morris was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Stewart Jr. was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation. When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic.
