| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE April 12, 2016 Unrestrained Zachary Man Dies in East Baton Rouge Parish Crash Pride, LA – Shortly after 4:00 pm on April 12, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 37 south of LA 63 in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 33 year old Aramis Pepper of Zachary, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Pepper was traveling northbound on LA 37 in a 2012 Nissan Juke. For unknown reasons, Pepper’s vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane and ran off the roadway. Pepper’s vehicle continued off the roadway and came to a stop after striking a tree. Pepper was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Pepper for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
