TROOP E NEWS RELEASE July 28, 2018 Unrestrained Pineville Man Killed in Crash Rapides Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Pineville, LA. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the crash. Troopers responded to the crash around 1:00 a.m., which occurred on Interstate 49 near the Meeker/Turkey Creek Exit. The crash involved a 2007 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Blas Sandoval (O/M 51 yrs). The Chevrolet was northbound on Interstate 49 when Sandoval lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the left side, the vehicle reentered the roadway and began overturning before exiting the right side. Sandoval was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. In 2018, Troop E has investigated 28 fatal crashes resulting in 29 deaths. | |||
