TROOP E NEWS RELEASE August 8, 2018 Unrestrained Cottonport Woman Killed in Crash Avoyelles Parish – Last night, a crash involving two vehicles killed a woman from Cottonport, LA that was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers responded to the crash around 9:30 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 107, near LA Hwy 1192. The crash involved a 2005 Buick LeSabre, driven by April B. Lemoine (W/F 24 yrs) and a 2017 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Paige N. Lucas (W/F 27 yrs) of Marksville, LA. The Buick was northbound on LA Hwy 107 when Lemoine lost control and crossed the centerline into the southbound lane. This action resulted in the Buick colliding head-on with the southbound Chevrolet. Lemoine was pronounced dead. Lucas was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. In 2018, Troop E has investigated 31 fatal crashes resulting in 32 deaths. | |||
