Pedestrian Killed in Early Morning Crash

Rapides Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a pedestrian from Boyce, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 4:55 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 28 West, near Cooper Road. The crash involved a 2016 Mack (garbage truck), driven by Christopher Anthony (B/M 29 yrs) of Alexandria, LA and a pedestrian, identified as Britt Holden (W/M 56 yrs). The Mack was westbound on LA Hwy 28 West, in the right lane, when Holden entered the roadway. This action placed Holden in the direct travel path of the Mack. Anthony attempted to evade the collision, by swerving left, but was unsuccessful.

Holden was pronounced dead on the scene.

Anthony was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. His only passenger, identified as Shawn Williams (32 yrs) of Alexandria, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic.

In 2018, Troop E has investigated 20 fatal crashes resulting in 20 deaths.
