TROOP E NEWS RELEASE June 22, 2018 **UPDATE**Unrestrained Jonesville Teen Killed in Crash, High Speed a Factor **After a lengthy and thorough investigation, Troopers arrested the juvenile (B/F 17 yrs) associated with this crash, earlier today. It was determined that she was the driver of the 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor and was engaged in drag racing with another vehicle. Her speed was in excess of 100 mph. It was determined that all three occupants were properly restrained. Troopers were also able to identify the other vehicle involved in the drag race. It was a 2014 Nissan Altima, driven by Victor V. Barber Jr. (B/M 19 yrs) of Jonesville. His speed was in excess of 100 mph. The juvenile was charged with negligent homicide, negligent injury, reckless operation, drag racing and no driver’s license. Barber Jr. was charged with negligent homicide, negligent injury, reckless operation and drag racing. Both were booked into the Catahoula Parish Jail. See below for the original release from March 22, 2018. Catahoula Parish – Early yesterday afternoon, a single vehicle crash killed a teenager from Jonesville, LA and moderately injured two others. All three teenagers were unrestrained. Troopers responded to the crash around 12:50 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 3165 near LA Hwy 124. The crash involved a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor. The Mitsubishi was southbound on LA Hwy 3165, at a high rate of speed, when it exited the right side of the roadway and began overturning before coming to rest on the roof. There were three occupants in the vehicle, at the time of the crash. They are identified as Shyonna S. Jones (B/F 18 yrs) of Jonesville, Delicia O. Ceasor (B/F 18 yrs) of Jonesville, and a juvenile (B/F 17 yrs) of Jonesville. Jones received moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment. The juvenile received moderate injuries and was transported to Riverland Medical Center for treatment. Ceasor was pronounced dead. It is unknown, at this time, who was driving the vehicle. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation. Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of highway crashes and fatalities. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Troop E Troopers have investigated six fatal crashes in 2018, resulting in six fatalities. | |||
