Vernon Parish – On August 26, 2021, shortly before 11:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 3226. The crash claimed the life of 38-year-old Jonathon D. Harms, of Longville.

The initial investigation revealed Harms was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 3226 on a 2013 Harley Davison motorcycle. For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle traveled off the roadway and overturned. This action ejected Harms from the motorcycle.

Harms sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains an on-going investigation.

Troopers encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur.

Natchitoches Parish – On August 27, 2021, shortly before 3:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 9. This crash claimed the life of 31-year-old James McWhorter, of Campti.

The initial investigation revealed a 2008 Ford F-150, driven by McWhorter, was traveling northbound on Louisiana Highway 9. For reasons still under investigation, McWhorter’s vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck multiple trees. As a result, McWhorter’s vehicle became engulfed in flames.

Buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself during a vehicle crash. Failure to take a few seconds to buckle up can have devastating consequences. Louisiana law requires every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, to be properly restrained day or night.

In 2021, Troop E has investigated 36 fatal crashes resulting in 38 deaths.
