One Arrested after Head-on Crash Kills Two People in Ascension Parish

Donaldsonville, LA – Shortly after 6:00 am on July 14, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 1 north of LA 405 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 17 year old Stormy Hunnicutt of Prairieville, LA and 32 year old Ashley Stevenson of Donaldsonville, LA. The crash also resulted in the arrest of 21 year old Brennan Simoneaux of St. Amant, LA

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Simoneaux was traveling northbound on LA 1 in a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. At the same time, 28 year old Jasmine Allen of Baton Rouge, LA was traveling southbound on LA 1 in a 2002 Infiniti I-35. Simoneaux crossed the center line into the southbound lane in attempted to pass another vehicle and struck Allen’s vehicle head-on.

Hunnicutt was not restrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. Stevenson was properly restrained and sustained serious injuries in the crash. She was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Simoneaux was not restrained and sustained minor injuries in the crash. Allen was properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries.

Simoneaux was treated for his injuries and placed under arrest by Troopers. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail for two counts of Negligent Homicide, Reckless Operation, Careless Operation, and No Seat Belt.

Louisiana State Troopers want to inform motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
