TROOP E NEWS RELEASE November 23, 2014 Two Men Killed in Fiery Crash Concordia Parish – Late yesterday afternoon, a crash involving two vehicles killed two men after their vehicle was struck by another vehicle, overturned, and became engulfed in flames. Another man and an infant were injured and were transported to a hospital for treatment. Troopers responded to the crash around 5:50 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 565 south of LA Hwy 129. The crash involved a 2014 Dodge pickup, driven by Johnny C. Warren (W/M 66 yrs) of Monterey, LA and a 2000 Volkswagen Passat, driven by Ernie E. Climer (W/M 36 yrs) of Cheneyville, LA. The Dodge was southbound on LA Hwy 565 when Warren attempted to turn left onto Kemps Landing Road. This action placed the Dodge in the Volkswagen’s travel lane, which was northbound on LA Hwy 565. The Dodge then collided with the Volkswagen, which resulted in the Volkswagen overturning and becoming fully engulfed in flames. Warren was wearing his seat belt and received minor injuries. A six month old female was a passenger in Warren’s vehicle. She also received minor injuries. Both were transported to Natchez Regional Hospital. Warren was charged with failure to yield. Climer was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown if he was wearing his seat belt. Climer’s only passenger, identified as Jeremy Chad Elliott (W/M 36 yrs) of Trout, LA, was removed from the vehicle, by Warren, before it became engulfed in flames. Despite Warren’s efforts, Elliott was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown if he was wearing his seat belt. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Inattentive and distracted driving is dangerous and is a leading cause of crashes in our state. It is important for motorists to pay attention to what is going on outside of the vehicle they are driving. More information on distracted driving may be found online at the federal government’s official distracted driving website, www.distraction.gov. Troop E Troopers have investigated 41 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 48 fatalities.
