TROOP E NEWS RELEASE November 26, 2014 Unrestrained Deville Man Killed in Crash Rapides Parish – Early yesterday evening, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Deville, LA that was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers responded to the crash around 6:55 p.m., which occurred on Free Road at Pete Paul Road. The crash involved a 2004 Ford pickup, driven by Leonard H. Free Jr. (W/M 46 yrs). The Ford was southbound on Free Road when Free Jr. lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree. Free Jr. was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E Troopers have investigated 42 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 51 fatalities.
