TROOP E NEWS RELEASE November 30, 2014 Husband Dies, Wife in Serious Condition after Motorcycle Crash Vernon Parish – Last night, a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle killed a man from Leesville, LA and seriously injured his wife, after their motorcycle collided with a deer. Troopers responded to the crash around 9:30 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 28 West near Walnut Hill Road. The crash involved a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Gordon L. Bolton (W/M 53 yrs). The Harley was westbound on LA Hwy 28 West, in the left lane, when a deer entered the lane from the median. This action resulted in the motorcycle colliding with the deer, ejecting Bolton and his passenger. Bolton was transported to Byrd Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, identified as Monika Bolton (W/F 57 yrs), received serious injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center. Both were wearing helmets. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seat belts decrease your risk of serious injury or death. Motorcycle awareness license plates are available through the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles. Please visit their website at www.expresslane.org for more information. Funds generated from the purchase of the plates will be used by the Motorcycle Awareness Campaign to increase awareness and promote/support training and education efforts for motorcyclists.
