TROOP E NEWS RELEASE September 22, 2014 Traffic Incident Management Training Course Alexandria, LA- On Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Louisiana State Police Troop E will offer a free Traffic Incident Management (TIM) training course to all local law enforcement agencies within their troop area, fire departments, emergency medical services personnel, communication districts, and towing companies. Each year, approximately 12 police officers, 5 fire and rescue personnel, and 60 towing professionals are struck and killed during a traffic related incident. That’s nearly 13% of all police and fire/rescue deaths due to vehicle related incidents. Additionally, each minute a lane of a major highway is blocked, it results in an estimated four minutes of traffic delays. In an effort to reduce these numbers, LSP has partnered with Louisiana DOTD and Louisiana Fire Marshall’s Office to present this course. This course primarily focuses on traffic related scene management. The new multi-agency national TIM training course equips responders with a common set of core competencies and assists in strengthening in the areas of responder safety, safe and quick clearance, and prompt, reliable, and interoperable communication. A major goal of this training is to develop rapport and foster communication between agencies. It will also give participants a better understanding of the duties and responsibilities of each agency and the duties of each position involved. Communication and cooperation are key factors. As many already know, this course will likely be a mandatory training course for all those responding to crashes on Louisiana roadways. In fact, police and some fire academies are now adopting this course as part of their core curriculum. As a result, we urge those who are available to take this course now and not wait until it becomes mandatory.
