Driver Dies after Striking Horse on US 190 in Livingston Parish

Satsuma, LA Shortly after 1:00 am on September 16, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash involving a horse on US 190 east of Satsuma Rd. in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 24 year old Joshua Marange of Denham Springs, LA. The horse also died as a result of the crash.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Marange was traveling eastbound on US 190 in a 2000 Buick Park Avenue. Marange’s vehicle struck a horse that was standing in the eastbound lane of US 190. The impact with the horse caused severe damage to Marange’s vehicle. Marange’s vehicle ran off the roadway and came to rest after striking a tree.

Marange sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Marange for analysis. Troopers are still working to locate the owner of the horse.

Troopers urge you to call *LSP (*577) to reach the nearest LSP Troop location to report hazardous roadway conditions or request assistance if needed.
