TROOP E NEWS RELEASE July 27, 2014 Unrestrained Young Man Killed in Crash, Alcohol Suspected Natchitoches Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a young man from Pleasant Hill, LA. He was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected during the crash. Alcohol usage is a suspected factor. Troopers responded to the crash around 12:30 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 174 west of LA Hwy 487. The crash involved a 2002 GMC pickup, driven by Wallace Scott Jones (B/M 22 yrs). The GMC was eastbound on LA Hwy 174 when Jones lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the left side of the roadway, Jones overcorrected his vehicle and exited the right side, before entering a ditch and overturning. Jones was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects. Troop E Troopers have investigated 29 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 34 fatalities.
