TROOP E NEWS RELEASE September 21, 2014 Unrestrained Welsh Man Killed in Crash Avoyelles Parish – Late this afternoon, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Welsh, LA. He was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. Troopers responded to the crash around 5:20 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 114 near LA Hwy 1. The crash involved a 1997 Cadillac Seville, driven by Timothy J. Vanness (W/M 24 yrs). The Cadillac was eastbound on LA Hwy 114 when Vanness lost control and ran off the right side of the roadway. After exiting the right side of the roadway, the vehicle entered a ditch and collided with a concrete culvert before overturning several times. Vanness was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E Troopers have investigated 32 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 37 fatalities.
