TROOP E NEWS RELEASE

Fiery Head-On Crash Kills Four in Avoyelles Parish

Avoyelles Parish – Very early this morning, a crash involving two vehicles killed all four occupants after the vehicles collided head-on. Two of the occupants, in one of the vehicles, were not wearing their seat belt.

Troopers responded to the crash around 1:05 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 107 south of LA Hwy 453. The crash involved a 1999 Chevrolet pickup and a 2013 Toyota Prius. The Chevrolet was southbound on LA Hwy 107 when the driver lost control and crossed the centerline. This action resulted in the Chevrolet colliding with the northbound Toyota.

After the initial collision, both vehicles became fully engulfed in flames. Both occupants, in the Chevrolet, were not wearing their seat belt and were ejected. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants, in the Toyota, were trapped inside the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the occupants, in the Chevrolet, is identified as Kenneth D. Davis (W/M 59 yrs) of Deville, LA. Troopers are awaiting positive identification through DNA analysis before names can be given on the other three occupants.

While the exact cause(s) of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. Information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distrtaction.gov.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation.

While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 46 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 58 fatalities.
