TROOP E NEWS RELEASE December 16, 2014 Calhoun Man Killed in Winn Parish Crash Winn Parish – Earlier this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Calhoun, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 9:45 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 34 at LA Hwy 126. The crash involved a 2008 Toyota Tundra, driven by Billy W. Berry (W/M 55 yrs). The Toyota was eastbound on LA Hwy 34 when Berry lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a ditch embankment before colliding with a tree. Berry was wearing his seat belt, but was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Troop E Troopers have investigated 51 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 63 fatalities.
