TROOP E NEWS RELEASE December 31, 2014 Young Dry Prong Man Killed in Alcohol Related Crash Grant Parish – Very early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a young man from Dry Prong, LA and injured a young woman. It is unknown if either person was wearing a seat belt, but alcohol is a suspected factor with regards to the driver. Troopers responded to the crash around 12:45 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 8 west of Bentley, LA. The crash involved a 2008 GMC pickup, driven by Travis Scott Bordelon (W/M 21 yrs). The GMC was westbound on LA Hwy 8 when Bordelon lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, Bordelon overcorrected his vehicle, reentered LA Hwy 8, and exited the left side. The GMC then rolled onto the driver’s side and began sliding before impacting a tree. Impact was made with the roof of the vehicle. Bordelon was pronounced dead at the scene. His only passenger, identified as Alanna Shea Duke (W/F 22 yrs) of Bentley, received moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E Troopers have investigated 52 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 64 fatalities.
