Natchitoches Parish – Late this afternoon, a crash involving two vehicles killed three and injured four. The crash involved individuals from Pineville and Montgomery, LA. Seat belts were used, but impairment is unknown at this time.

Troopers responded to the crash around 5:07 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 71 south of Clarence, LA. The crash involved a 2014 Nissan Sentra, driven by Stacey N. Lachney (W/F 41 yrs) of Pineville and a 2001 Pontiac, driven by Jennifer L. Tell (W/F 31 yrs) of Montgomery. The Nissan was northbound on US Hwy 71 when Lachney crossed the centerline and collided with the southbound Pontiac. As a result of this collision, three were killed and four were injured.

Lachney was wearing her seat belt, but was pronounced dead. Her only passenger, identified as Chelsee N. Martin (W/F 22 yrs) of Pineville, was wearing her seat belt. She received moderate injuries and was transported to Natchitoches Regional Hospital.

Tell was wearing her seat belt, but was pronounced dead. Brian S. West (W/M 44 yrs) of Montgomery and three juveniles were passengers in Tell’s vehicle. West was wearing his seat belt, but was pronounced dead. The three juveniles were restrained, but received minor to serious injuries. They were transported to Natchitoches Regional Hospital and Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury.
