TROOP E NEWS RELEASE November 11, 2013 Unrestrained Alexandria Teen Killed In Crash Rapides Parish – Very early this morning, a single vehicle crashed killed a teenager from Alexandria, LA. The teen was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. Troopers responded to the crash around 12:55 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 496 east of LA Hwy 3054. The crash involved a 2008 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Chase L. Michiels (W/M 16 yrs). The Chevrolet was eastbound on LA Hwy 496 when Michiels lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with several small trees and overturned. Michiels was pronounced dead. His only passenger, identified as a juvenile (W/M 17 yrs) of Alexandria, was not wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E Troopers have investigated 43 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 45 fatalities.
