Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run Crash

Vernon Parish - Early this morning, a man from Fort Polk, LA was killed when a vehicle struck him and did not stop.

Troopers responded to the crash around 4:30 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 1211 west of US Hwy 171. The crash involved an unknown vehicle and a pedestrian (O/M 25 yrs). The pedestrian’s exact identity is not being released, at this time, until notification to the next of kin has been made. The unknown vehicle was eastbound on LA Hwy 1211 when it struck the pedestrian and did not stop. The pedestrian was located in the eastbound travel lane.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 37 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 39 fatalities.
