TROOP E NEWS RELEASE August 11, 2013 Unrestrained Marksville Man Killed In Crash Avoyelles Parish – Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Marksville, LA that was not wearing his seatbelt. Troopers responded to the crash around 11:50 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 1 north of Marksville. The crash involved a 1997 Ford Taurus, driven by Charles E. Washington (B/M 57 yrs). The Ford was north bound on LA Hwy 1 when Washington lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, Washington overcorrected his vehicle and exited the left side before colliding with a mailbox and then a tree. Washington was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E Troopers have investigated 28 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 29 fatalities.
