TROOP E NEWS RELEASE August 30, 2013 Motorcyclist Killed In Vernon Parish Crash Vernon Parish – Earlier today, a crash involving a motorcycle killed a man from Philadelphia, PA and seriously injured a woman. Troopers responded to the crash around 1:50 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 1146 near US Hwy 171. The crash involved a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle, driven by Eric N. Brown (W/M 44 yrs). The Yamaha was eastbound on LA Hwy 1146 when Brown lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, Brown and his passenger, Wanda Flecha-Ramos (W/F 52 yrs) of Philadelphia, PA, were ejected from the motorcycle. Brown was wearing a helmet, but was pronounced dead. Flecha-Ramos was wearing a helmet, but received serious injuries. She was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Troop E Troopers have investigated 30 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 31 fatalities.
