The crash involved a bicycle, ridden by Richard Green (B/M 57 yrs) and a 2008 Kia Sorento, driven by Thomesina P. Grant (B/F 31 yrs) of Marksville, LA. The Kia was northbound on LA Hwy 115 when Green attempted to cross the roadway, while riding his bicycle, placing him in the direct path of Grant. This action resulted in the Kia colliding with the bicycle.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires that every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable.

Bicycle helmets are 85% effective in reducing total head and brain injuries. Bicycle helmets are the single most effective way to reduce fatalities due to head injuries. When wearing a bicycle helmet, make sure it fits snugly on your head and the clasp is locked.
