TROOP E NEWS RELEASE May 22, 2014 Unrestrained Texas Man Killed in Crash Vernon Parish – Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Spring, TX. Investigating Troopers reported that he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Troopers responded to the crash around 12:50 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 8 west of LA Hwy 464. The crash involved a 2013 Mazda SUV, driven by Kenneth H. Carruth (W/M 57 yrs). The Mazda was westbound on LA Hwy 8 when Carruth lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a sign and two trees. Carruth was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E Troopers have investigated 21 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 24 fatalities.
