TROOP E NEWS RELEASE December 30, 2013 Young Natchitoches Woman Killed in Crash Natchitoches Parish – Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles killed a young woman from Natchitoches, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 3:30 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 3191 near LA Hwy 1. The crash involved a 2006 Ford Taurus, driven by Kimberly R. Knight (W/F 20 yrs) and a 2008 GMC Chipper Truck, driven by Zachary J. Wyatt (W/M 21 yrs) of Robeline, LA. The Ford was southbound on LA Hwy 3191 when Knight lost control and crossed the centerline. This action placed Knight’s vehicle in the northbound lane, resulting in the Ford colliding with the northbound GMC. Knight was wearing her seatbelt, but was pronounced dead. Wyatt was not wearing his seatbelt, but was not injured. There were four passengers in Wyatt’s vehicle, identified as Ricky A. Simmons (W/M 32 yrs) of Natchitoches, Ricky Allen Jr. (W/M 21 yrs) of Jonesboro, LA, Chris Rivet (W/M 22 yrs) of Natchitoches, and Walter Williams (W/M 19 yrs) of Jonesboro. Simmons received moderate injuries and Allen Jr. received minor injuries. Both were transported to Natchitoches Regional Hospital. Rivet and Williams were not injured. All of Wyatt’s passengers were properly restrained. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Troop E Troopers have investigated 52 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 54 fatalities.
