| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE August 1, 2016 New Roads Man Dies in Head-on Crash in Pointe Coupee Parish Ventress, LA – Shortly before 6:00 pm on July 31, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 415 north of LA 414 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 29 year old Joshua Mougeot of New Roads, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Mougeot was traveling northbound on LA 415 in a 2000 Toyota Echo. At the same time, 56 year old Gregory Martin of Port Allen, LA was traveling soutbound on LA 415 in a 1996 Lexus LS400. For unknown reasons, Mougeot failed to negotiate a right hand curve. Mougeot’s vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane of LA 415 and struck Martin’s vehicle head-on. Mougeot was properly restrained at the time of the crash but suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office. Martin was also properly restrained and received moderate injuries. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis. Contact Information: | |||
