TROOP E NEWS RELEASE January 14, 2014 Young Unrestrained Glenmora Man Killed in Crash Rapides Parish – Late last night, a single vehicle crash killed a young man from Glenmora, LA. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash. Troopers responded to the crash around 11:58 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 112 west of LA Hwy 488. The crash involved a 2003 Honda Accord, driven by Lauren Elizabeth Skinner (W/F 19 yrs) of Glenmora. The Honda was westbound on LA Hwy 112 when Lauren Skinner lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle began overturning. It is unknown if Lauren Skinner was wearing her seatbelt. She received moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center. Her only passenger, identified as Michael Alex Skinner (W/M 24 yrs), was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E Troopers have investigated 3 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 4 fatalities.
