TROOP E NEWS RELEASE January 17, 2014 Unrestrained Leesville Man Killed in Crash Vernon Parish – Last night, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Leesville, LA. He was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. Troopers responded to the crash around 8:25 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 8 west of Slagle, LA. The crash involved a 2000 Pontiac, driven by Jesse J. Hicks (W/M 30). The Pontiac was eastbound on LA Hwy 8 when Hicks lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle began overturning. Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop E Troopers have investigated 4 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 5 fatalities.
