TROOP E NEWS RELEASE February 2, 2014 Teen Killed in Fiery Sabine Parish Crash Sabine Parish – Last night, a single vehicle crash killed a teenager from Converse, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 9:15 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 174 west of Converse. The crash involved a 2007 Saturn Ion, driven by Cody James Meaux (W/M 19 yrs). The Saturn was eastbound on LA Hwy 174 when Meaux lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, Meaux overcorrected his vehicle and exited the left side before colliding with a tree and becoming engulfed in flames. It is unknown if Meaux was wearing his seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Troop E Troopers have investigated 7 fatal crashes in 2014, resulting in 9 fatalities.
