TROOP E NEWS RELEASE

May 13, 2015
Unrestrained Teen Killed in Crash

Vernon Parish - Earlier tonight, a single vehicle crash killed a teen from Leesville, LA that was not wearing a seat belt. Another teen was injured in the crash.

Troopers responded to the crash around 7:30 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 465 south of LA Hwy 117. The crash involved a 2006 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Acadia M. Sanders (W/F 15 yrs). The Chevrolet was northbound on LA Hwy 465 when Sanders lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a large tree.

Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene. Her only passenger, identified as Jon Christian Stuckey (W/M 18 yrs) of Leesville, was wearing his seat belt. He received moderate injuries and was transported to Byrd Hospital for treatment.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt and properly restraining your children in car seats will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes.

Although the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers would like to remind the public of the following: inattentive and distracted driving is dangerous and is a leading cause of crashes in our state. It is important for motorists to pay attention to what is going on outside of the vehicle they are driving. More information on distracted driving may be found online at the federal government’s official distracted driving website, www.distraction.gov.

Troop E Troopers have investigated fourteen fatal crashes in 2015, resulting in nineteen fatalities.
