TROOP E NEWS RELEASE July 24, 2016 Motorcyclist Killed in Sabine Parish Crash Sabine Parish – Early this morning, Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash that killed a man from Zwolle, LA. He was wearing a helmet, but was ejected from the motorcycle. Troopers responded to the crash around 6:15 a.m., which occurred on Kimbrell Loop near Hess Road. The crash involved a 2012 Harley Davidson, driven by Ralph C. Higginbotham Jr. (W/M 63 yrs). The Harley was westbound on Kimbrell Loop when Higginbotham Jr. lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the motorcycle collided with a culvert and Higginbotham Jr. was then ejected as the motorcycle continued across a private driveway. Higginbotham Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact time of the crash is unknown, but the investigation remains ongoing. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seat belts decrease your risk of serious injury or death. Troop E Troopers have investigated 31 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 36 fatalities.
