TROOP E NEWS RELEASE August 22, 2016 Longview Man Killed in Crash Natchitoches Parish – Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man from Longview, TX. All occupants involved were properly restrained. Troopers responded to the crash around 3:00 p.m., which occurred on I-49 south of LA Hwy 485. The crash involved a 2005 Honda Accord, driven by Deytwan Demetrius (B/M 18 yrs) of Fort Polk, LA and a 2015 Toyota Camry, driven by Jabe Maddox (W/M 39 yrs). The Honda was southbound on I-49 when Demetrius lost control and entered the median that separates the southbound lanes from the northbound lanes. The Honda continued through the median and entered the northbound lanes of I-49, where it collided with the Toyota. Demetrius received minor injuries and was transported to Natchitoches Medical Center. His only passenger, identified as Trevon Lewis (B/M 18 yrs) of Leesville, LA, received minor injuries and was transported to Natchitoches Medical Center. Maddox was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Troop E Troopers have investigated 32 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 37 fatalities. .
