TROOP E NEWS RELEASE October 4, 2016 Unrestrained Jonesville Teen Killed in Catahoula Parish Crash Catahoula Parish – Early this morning, Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash that killed a teenager from Jonesville, LA that was not wearing her seat belt. Based on evidence at the scene, it is believed that the crash actually occurred sometime last night. Troopers responded to the crash around 7:05 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 124 north of Harrisonburg. The crash involved a 2008 Toyota Camry, driven by Reagen M. Rainey (W/F 19 yrs). The Toyota was westbound on LA Hwy 124 when Rainey lost control and exited the right side of the roadway, before overcorrecting and exiting the left side. After exiting the left side of the roadway, the vehicle collided with a large tree which resulted in splitting the Toyota in half. Rainey was pronounced dead on the scene. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Troop E Troopers have investigated 40 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 45 fatalities.
