TROOP E NEWS RELEASE October 9, 2016 Elmer Woman Killed in Rapides Parish Crash Rapides Parish – Last night, a single vehicle crash killed a woman from Elmer, LA and injured the man driving. Troopers responded to the crash around 7:15 p.m., which occurred on Elmer Road south of LA Hwy 112. The crash involved a 1991 Mazda pickup, driven by Leroy A. Wise Jr. (W/M 64 yrs) of Elmer. The Mazda was northbound on Elmer Road when Wise Jr. lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree. Wise Jr. was not wearing his seat belt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment. His only passenger, identified as Theresa B. Wise (W/F 61 yrs), was wearing her seat belt. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Troop E Troopers have investigated 41 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 46 fatalities.
