TROOP E NEWS RELEASE June 2, 2016 Young Teen Killed in UTV Crash Sabine Parish – Late last night, a crash involving a UTV killed a young female teenager from Zwolle, LA. She was not wearing a seat belt or a helmet. Troopers responded to the crash around 10:20 p.m., which occurred on Wrights Landing Road south of LA Hwy 191. The crash involved a 2011 Polaris Ranger, driven by Melissa Anderson (W/F 13 yrs). The Polaris was eastbound on Wrights Landing Road when Anderson lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, Anderson was ejected from the UTV. Anderson was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. The public is reminded that it is dangerous and illegal to operate off-road vehicles (i.e. three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other all-terrain vehicles) on any public roadway in this state. Troop E Troopers have investigated 22 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 24 fatalities.
