TROOP E NEWS RELEASE June 4, 2016 Young Child Killed in Avoyelles Parish Crash Avoyelles Parish – Late this afternoon, a single vehicle crash killed a young child from Simmesport, LA and moderately injured the female driver. Both the driver and the child were wearing their seat belts. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:20 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 114 near Moreauville, LA. The crash involved a 2004 Buick Rainier, driven by Carmen Romero Moreau (W/F 40 yrs) of Simmesport. The Buick was westbound on LA Hwy 114 when Moreau encountered some standing water on the roadway, causing her to lose control. The vehicle then exited the right side of the roadway and collided with a fence. This collision resulted in pieces of the fence entering the vehicle and impacting the driver and passenger. Moreau was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center. Her only passenger, identified as Isabella Ducote (8 yrs), was transported to Avoyelles Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 23 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 25 fatalities.
