TROOP E NEWS RELEASE June 11, 2016 Four Killed in Fiery Vernon Parish Crash Vernon Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed four people. Excessive speed is a suspected factor. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:15 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 10 between Oakdale and Pitkin, LA. The crash involved a 2005 Chevrolet pickup. The Chevrolet was eastbound on LA Hwy 10 when the driver lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the driver overcorrected the vehicle, reentered LA Hwy 10, and exited the left side. Once the vehicle exited the left side, it collided with several trees before becoming fully engulfed in flames. There were four occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash. All four were trapped inside and were pronounced dead. The identities of all four are being withheld, at this time, pending positive identification by DNA analysis. It is unknown, at this time, if seat belts were used by the occupants or if the driver was impaired. The investigation remains ongoing. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated 24 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 29 fatalities.
