***Update*** TROOP E NEWS RELEASE August 11, 2016 Arrest Made in Crash that Killed Prairieville Man LaSalle Parish – On Tuesday, July 28, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop E arrested 24-year-old Dannen Poole of Olla, LA for hit and run driving and for drag racing on a public road. On June 25, 2015, Poole was the driver of another vehicle involved in a crash that resulted in the death of 28-year-old Joshua Proffer. Troopers obtained a warrant after receiving more information about the crash indicating the two drivers were drag racing at the time of the crash. Poole was arrested and booked into the LaSalle Parish Correctional Center. Unrestrained Prairieville Man Killed in Crash LaSalle Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Prairieville, LA that was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers responded to the crash around 2:45 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 500 near US Hwy 84. The crash involved a 2013 Ford Fusion. The Ford was westbound on LA Hwy 500, traveling at a high rate of speed, when it crossed the centerline and collided with a bridge railing. After this initial collision, the vehicle entered a bayou and became partially submerged. The only occupant located in the vehicle was pronounced dead. He is identified as Joshua L. Proffer (W/M 28 yrs). It is unknown, at this time, if he was the driver. The investigation remains ongoing. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation. Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of highway crashes and fatalities. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Troop E Troopers have investigated 25 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 30 fatalities.
