TROOP E NEWS RELEASE October 24, 2016 Last Week’s Injury Crash Claims Unrestrained Natchitoches Woman’s Life Early Yesterday Natchitoches Parish – Late Thursday night, October 20, 2016, a single vehicle crash seriously injured a woman from Natchitoches, LA. She was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the crash. This crash would eventually claim her life. Troopers responded to the crash around 11:57 p.m., which occurred on Interstate 49 north of Natchitoches, LA. The crash involved a 2001 Ford pickup, driven by Karen L. Manasco (W/F 49 yrs). The Ford was northbound on Interstate 49 when Manasco lost control and exited the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle began overturning. Manasco was transported to University Health Hospital in Shreveport for treatment. She was pronounced dead yesterday at 12:15 a.m. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Troop E Troopers have investigated 43 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 48 fatalities.
